However NOT RECOMMENDED for the recent extension in product license for use in reducing the risk of death from cardiovascular disease in people with type 2 diabetes. NICE are currently appraising the clinical and cost effectiveness of empagliflozin within its new marketing authorisation. Prescribers are therefore recommended NOT to prescribe for this indication until the NICE review and position in local treatment pathway has been confirmed. Nice TA.
NOTE: Do not initiate in patients with eGFR<60. If eGFR falls below 45 discontinue. BNF guidelines on full dosage information.
